Catalyst Festival of Creativity presents “DJing for beginners” with Jaguar Bingham
You can catch the flavour of our workshop in the video above, and also read some follow-up notes for budding DJs from our workshop leader, Jaguar Bingham.
Have you ever wanted to try DJing but didn’t know where to start?
This hands-on workshop will be held in Sheffield and led by Jaguar Bingham, aka Dangerous Jag.
We’ll be covering the basics of DJing, including how to beatmatch, the importance of song selection, how to mix two tracks together, and the use of effects. There will be a chance to take it in turns and practice these skills, ask questions and have a play around, so hopefully everyone will come away more confident and knowledgeable about mixing!
Jaguar Bingham writes
“I’m a self-taught DJ who has been mixing for about a year and a half now, playing in clubs around Leeds on the same line ups as Toddla T, Eli & Fur and Section Boyz. I got into DJing through Leeds Student Radio where I did my Friday night electronic music show and so it came naturally for me to start mixing under my alias Dangerous Jag. When I’m not behind the decks you can find me doing something radio related as part of Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s Youth Council; listening to undiscovered music for BBC Introducing in Sheffield; and writing news stories for dance music and club culture media brand Mixmag.”
