Register Map

Andie Brown is bringing her glass harp to the YSWN Huddersfield Social, where she will briefly talk about her journey from bass player to sound artist, discussing some of the technology behind her work and current research. Andie will also give a brief live performance demonstration and invite members of the social to have a go at playing her glass harp themselves.

“ Wine glasses aren’t just for drinking: How I made my own instrument

Andie Brown began making music three decades ago as a teenager, playing bass guitar in many bands over the course of the following 20 or so years. In 2007, she began a solo career as a sound artist, experimenting with other instruments and in particular, glass.

Over the last decade, Andie has experimented with glass and electronics (from guitar pedals to digital computer processing), making music with what she calls an “Augmented glass harp”. In 2012, Andie decided to go back to school and embarked on a BSc degree in Music Technology: Sound for Media at London Metropolitan University.

In 2017 Andie relocated to Huddersfield where she is undertaking a Masters by Research in Music, carrying on her own research into working with glass, electronics and moving image for live performance and installation.
