An introduction to sound spatialisation with Ambisonics
With Oli Larkin and Kristina Wolfe
This session will introduce ambisonics – a technique for surround sound capture and playback, that has recently become very popular thanks to VR and 360 media.
Oli and Kristina will start with an introduction to surround sound, discussing the benefits of ambisonics, and how it compares to other recording techniques. Then there will be a practical tutorial using an ambisonic microphone as demonstration of workflow for composing, mixing and producing music using ambisonics in a digital audio workstation. You will listen to recordings and compositions created by the workshop leaders as well as others – and you will get to have a go at mixing a piece.
The workshop will take place in the SPIRAL studio at the University of Huddersfield
This is a really informal basic orientation, kindly donated by Oli and Kristina, but there is scope to come in at a more advanced level. The session is limited to 10 people (the room isn’t very big).
