After a brief description of the wider YSWN network (and its events so far), Amy introduced new members to the aims discussed at our first Sheffield social, and we all introduced ourselves and our motivations for attending.
Next, Linda introduced us to the equipment she uses for her DIY improv gigs, and reflected on two performances she gave last month in Sheffield. This prompted a request for an informal contact mic exploration session, which we are now planning… Linda writes:
“During the last month I gave two DIY improv performances as one half of two different improvising duos. I thought a useful way to talk about this type of music would be to share and talk about some of the equipment I use during my performances. I brought in a small mixer, an effects pedal, ¼ inch jack cables, and two different types of contact mic to share with the group. The equipment acted as a prompt for discussions which included topics such as economic and social aspects of sourcing and maintaining ‘tech’ equipment. Showing the equipment, as well as talking about it, hopefully reveals the accessibility of this type of music making.”
Many thanks again to Deborah at DINA for letting us use the space. The next meet up will be Thursday 2nd June.
