Sheffield meet – July 2017

– Thursday 6th July 2017
– Time: 6.30 – 8.30 pm
– Venue: DINA Gallery & Cafe, 32 Cambridge Street, Sheffield, S1 4HP

Thanks to Lucy for offering to document this month’s meeting!

We welcomed Alex Burns to the group, who introduced her project to create a guide to music recording venues in Sheffield, which is being conducted in collaboration with Hallam Guild.  Alex will be sharing progress with the group over the summer, and will be welcoming our input too!

Deborah told the group about shesaid.so – a global network of women working in the music industry – it’s free to sign up and they provide a platform for discussion and community building.

Amy also brought in some sounds she rescued from an old hard drive, and played us three pieces she recorded between 2001 and 2005.

After a long discussion we decided to start a joint creative project called MONTH.  Loosely based on the Dear Data project (which if you haven’t seen you should really check out!) the idea is to collect some form of data each month and use this to inspire or generate a piece of sound no longer than 30 seconds.

We came up with a pretty good shortlist of ideas and settled on a theme of MESSAGES for the first month.  This can be interpreted and used however you please and sound works can be shared (or not!) at the next social which will be held on Thursday 3rd August, 6.30pm at DINA.
