2023–5
YSWN seeks to provide better opportunities specifically for women and people of minority genders within the music industry, and is working with music and sound industry employers to challenge and change the gender gap. Supported by funding from Youth Music’s Incubator Fund, we partnered with four audio companies over a two-year period to offer paid training placements for women and minority gender people aged 18–25.
The first placement was with award-winning media production company AiAi Studios, who produce documentaries, podcasts, music and scripted series for high profile clients such as Channel 4, Audible, Google and more. Subsequent placements have included BeSound Studios, Rare Tone Mastering, PitStop Productions and Club Haus recording studio.
Each trainee received a bursary during their placement, which ranged from a few weeks to six months, as well as a £500 micro-grant to develop a personal project tailored to suit their particular ambitions and interests, plus mentoring support from a YSWN associate with experience in the audio technology and music industry.
