2024-25
Turn Up the Volume is a positive campaign that has been put together to raise awareness of the gender and intersectional inequalities women and minority gendered people face in the audio and sound industry.
We want to get the message out far and wide to audio and sound organisations that they can do so much more to ensure gender equity and inclusivity in our sector. Turn Up the Volume will be a place to celebrate women and minority gendered people in the industry and share all the positive things our communities have achieved and experienced – as well as offer some tips on how the industry can improve for us to share with those in positions of influence.
Share this video online and tag us, asking your network to get involved with #TurnUpTheVolume #TUTV by uploading video or audio responses talking about positive moments to be included in the campaign. We want to amplify the voices of those in our communities and give them a platform to share their experiences and hopes for a changing future.
You can also help us by sharing the campaign with whoever you think could be interested in a programme like Volume Up that will support them to become more equitable and inclusive.
We want this campaign to be seen by as many people as possible, building on the Women & Equalities Committee’s landmark Misogyny in Music report earlier this year. The past UK government might have decided it’s not a priority to focus on, but we know it is! So please help us in naming, highlighting, coercing and persuading the companies and people we know to dedicate their time and resources to bettering the industry by making it more accessible and equitable.
We need the audio and sound industry to take gender diversity seriously. We are aware of the struggles we face as women and minority gendered people, but we want to show that change is being made by those women and minority gendered people who continue to be in the space and pave a way for new talent and changemakers.
We hope this campaign makes you feel as excited as it makes us, and that we can connect our audiences in a way that makes people feel empowered.
