Aged 11–25? Connect to creativity with our free WIRED Online tools!

by

As part of YSWN’s WIRED project, we’ve launched WIRED Online, a set of videos and learning tools to open up the world of music and audio production.

Funded by Youth Music and created especially for girls, women and minority gender people aged 11–25, WIRED Online features inspiring how-to videos and downloadable advice packs. Leading female and non-binary creatives and industry professionals explain skills such as building tracks, sampling and mixing in a fun, friendly and empowering way.

Ranging from beginner to intermediate level, the videos include:

• Making beats and live looping in Ableton Live with producer and finger drummer Gnarly (pictured)
• An introduction to mixing songs with music technology tutor Phoebe Pope
• A beginner’s guide to production software Logic with Wavy Award-winning singer/producer Rivita
• Getting the best from vocal tracks with vocal producer and engineer Ramera Abraham, winner of the Music Producers Guild Vocal Producer of the Year 2023.

WIRED Project Manager Chelsey Everatt says: “WIRED Online is a safe space for girls, young women and people of marginalised genders to explore their creativity, build their technical skills and be inspired by those who are working successfully in the audio industry. This is a space to empower young people to believe that they too can pursue a career in this industry and their creativity and skills are equally valued and needed.”

Watch out for more videos being added to the collection in coming weeks.

The free WIRED Online resources are accessed through a safe, members-only section of our website: users aged 13–25 can register themselves and users aged 11 or 12 can sign up with a parent or carers’ permission.
