Are you ready to Turn Up the Volume on gender equity in audio?

YSWN’s Volume Up scheme is on a mission to support the audio and sound industry to welcome, encourage and progress the inclusion of women and people of minority genders at all levels from the studio floor to the board room. We want it to reflect the diversity of its participating communities that makes it the creative, flourishing industry that we see today – and we need your help to do that!

We want to include the voices of women and minority gendered people in the industry in our positive campaign to raise awareness of the gender and intersectional inequalities they face every day.

The statistics on representation aren’t good – we know this. Less than 5% of the music tech industry is comprised of women, non-binary or trans people. Shockingly of these, less than 1% are from the Global Majority, Asian or ethnically diverse. Which means it is seriously lacking in fresh ideas, new sounds and innovative ways of creating.

However, there are so many people making change by simply being in the industry and we want to come together to spread the word that it’s time to Turn Up the Volume and make our voices heard!

Whether you’re a woman or minority gender person working in the audio industry or someone else who supports YSWN’s mission, there are THREE KEY THINGS you can do to get involved in the campaign and help us spread the word that change is needed:

1. Share the above video far and wide on your social media channels asking your peers to get involved with #TurnUpTheVolume.

2. Tag sound and audio organisations on social media who you think could be interested in a structure supporting them become equitable and inclusive.

3. Ask your community to share their video or audio response using the form below to be included in the campaign and be heard.
