Be the first to hear our new Changing Gear pieces

It’s time to unveil the three new works created for our Changing Gear project.

After being selected from all the artists who responded to our callout last autumn, Cherry Seraph, Artists’ Child and Helen Papaioannou have all taken inspiration from the ideas and legacy of electronic music pioneer Daphne Oram.

Helped by a behind-the-scenes visit to the collection stores of the National Science and Media Museum and time spent experimenting with the vintage synths at the University of Huddersfield, the three have composed pieces that celebrate Daphne’s 100th anniversary in their own individual ways using laptop, modular synth and cassette tapes.

All three will be performing their pieces in the Cubby Broccoli Cinema in the National Science and Media Museum, as part of the Make Some Noise! day of sonic activities during British Science Week.

Plus we’re bringing artist Maryanne Royle to the museum for a free drop-in workshop where you can capture your own sounds on her giant tape loops!

Changing Gear performance: 2pm
Tape loops drop-in: 10am-4pm
Entry to the museum, the performance and workshop is free but booking is advised due to busy times.
