New opportunity: Trainee Studio Assistant with BeSound Studios

YSWN has teamed up with BeSound Studios to offer a paid Trainee Studio Assistant opportunity.

Supported by Youth Music‘s Incubator fund, this is a positive action paid trainee opportunity aimed at women and minority gendered people aged 18-25 years old, with applications particularly welcomed from those of the global majority.

BeSound is a professional audio post production studio working in film, tv and sound design. Its founder Benje has worked for over 25 years on full length features, documentaries, factual TV, gaming promos and corporate work, creating unique sound design and mixes for each production. Clients include BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky Arts, Disney, Bloomberg, Discovery, History Channel, Nike, Omega, Samsung and more.

The selected trainee will gain real-world experience of working within a busy audio post production studio, seeing what goes into the production of an ongoing high profile TV production. You will also have a micro-grant of £500 to develop a personal project alongside your traineeship that will be tailored to suit your particular interests within the audio industry.

Tasks may include:

• Dialogue / Sync editing
• Tracklaying / Sound FX editing
• Music editing
• Voiceover recording and editing
• Mixing
• Office administration

As part of the placement, the trainee will also receive 10 hours of mentoring from a YSWN associate with experience in the audio technology & music business industry.

Skills / Experience / Attributes:

• Knowledge of Avid ProTools is essential
• Experience in audio/music editing
• Interest in / knowledge of:
– Sound Design
– Audio Post Production
– Film & TV
• Team player
• Willingness to learn
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Self motivated with strong work ethic and commitment to projects

Duration: 2 days a week over 6 months amounting to 48 days (7.5 hours per day) – one day a week in Watford, one day a week working remotely – worked flexibly in agreement with BeSound Studios between February 2024 and August 2024.

Fee: £5,000 inclusive of travel expenses

Place of work: BeSound Studios (In-person sessions in London, Watford) and remote working
