WIRED Wakefield is back!

by

Ever wanted to have a go at recording your own song? Or experiment with making weird and wild sounds – and perform them live?

Following on from last summer’s sessions, our WIRED Music Technology Club for Girls is returning to Wakefield in February, and if you are or know someone who’d like to join in, it’s time to sign up!

Open to girls, young women and minority gender young people aged 11–18, the free weekly sessions start with a taster session on Wednesday 8 February, and kick off in earnest on Wednesday 22 February for five weeks.

Led by experienced musicians using industry-standard music technology equipment and programmes, the fun, hands-on workshops offer participants the chance to:

• Record and produce music using computer software
• Set up and use different equipment like microphones and pedals
• Experiment with old technology such as tapes and cassettes
• Play with resonant frequencies, white noise and reverb techniques
• Explore analogue and digital synthesizers
• Learn about potential careers in the audio and music industry
•  Develop a live electronic performance

And more!

WIRED session dates:

Wednesday 8 February (taster session) then Wednesday 22 February weekly until Wednesday 22 March
6pm–7.30pm
Manygates Centre, 24-26 Manygates Lane, Wakefield WF2 7DQ
Plus: Performance on Tuesday 28 March at Wakefield Theatre Royal

To sign up for a place on the WIRED club, you can either download the application form below and return it to us, or email info@yorkshiresoundwomen.com to request a copy.

We welcome all girls, young women, non-binary people and other marginalised genders aged 11-18 years old with different levels of music and/or technology experience. It’s free to take part, no prior experience is necessary and you don’t have to be able to play a musical instrument. We do ask that you commit to attending all of the workshops. Anyone who attended last year’s workshops is also welcome to sign up again.

If you know someone who might be interested in WIRED, why not share our WIRED Wakefield flyer with them?

WIRED is funded and supported by Youth Music, Wakefield Music Services and Wakefield Music Education Hub.
