YSWN seeks to provide better opportunities specifically for women within the music industry and is working with music and sound industry employers to challenge and change the gender gap. As part of this mission, we’re launching two trainee opportunities for young women living in Kirklees who want to gain real-life experience of working in a recording studio.
We’ve teamed up with BASSment Studios in Huddersfield and Greenmount Studios in Leeds to offer two paid internships that will give you a valuable first step into the world of production. Each placement is for 16 days in total, worked flexibly between September and December this year and comes with a £2,000 bursary (including travel expenses).
The successful applicants will get hands-on experience in assisting with the operation and administration of a busy recording studio, shadowing sound engineers as they record and mix bands, helping with studio maintenance and learning about production from members of staff. You don’t need a music technology qualification or previous studio experience to apply – instead, we’re looking for someone with a positive attitude who is willing to learn all they can about how studios work.
